Remember, first convince yourself.
We have many new people, we also sponsor many new people,
why do so many people give up?
In fact, most of our partners give up,
not because they want to
but because they come across many obstacles.
Why do they come across obstacles?
Why is it that they can’t convince anyone?
Why can’t they sell product?
Why can’t they be like us and sponsor people?
I can tell you, one of the most important reasons
is that they they aren’t even convinced themselves.
Think about it, if you’re not even convinced yourself,
how do you expect others to believe you?
You have no confidence in the product how do you expect to sell it to others?
If you don’t have confidence in Amway company, Amway compensation plan, Amway products,
how will you convince others to join the business?
So partners, friends, it is of the utmost importance that you must first convince yourself.
I’m not referring to going to a meeting, or rally and getting really excited and saying “I’m convinced”
I think this type of believe is influenced by external factors.
Real belief is built from the inside.
In other words, you have to do it yourself, and in fact only you can convince yourself.
In our business we will often come across people often referred to as “stubborn” prospects.
Some of my partners come to me and say “this guy is very difficult to sponsor”,
“this person not easy to influence,” “very sceptical” etc.
I don’t think it’s a matter of being stubborn or not stubborn.
Sometimes the stubborn ones are better.
Think about it, if you sponsor people who are influenced easily,
who are convinced after two or three times, is it worth being happy or excited about?
Today they are convinced by you, tomorrow they are convinced by others.
Today he/she listened to your sales and marketing plan and thinks its a great opportunity.
Tomorrow he/she asked others and gives up just as quick.
If this is the case we might as well face the stubborn ones.
Like me, I think I’m quite a stubborn person, I’m not easily convinced.
I was approached in 1977 about Amway.
You all know Mr Chan Koon Tin, my university classmate,
now one of the largest most successful leaders in my organisation.
You know, judging by his influence, his ability, his talent…
I mean, the size of his organisation is huge.
He has the biggest, most successful group in my business.
I don’t know the number of platinums, or diamonds in his business.
Just counting the number of FC’s in his group
I can count over 10 (at the time of this recording, now about 30)
You don’t think he is convincing? I can tell you he is very convincing.
I can give you some advice, if you have an opportunity to listen to some of his old recordings,
he has many very good concepts worth listening to.
Then why he couldn’t he convince me at that time?
Is it because I’m too hard to convince?
Actually no.
Honestly, can tell you that in 1977, when Chan joined Amway, he simply just joined.
Like many of us, the moment we join, we don’t really understand Amway.
At that time, he wasn’t really committed and determined to build a business.
In other words, he wasn’t convinced that Amway was definitely the right decision.
So he couldn’t convince me.
In fact he didn’t even convince himself, how could he convince me?
So very quickly, within half a year, he gave up on Amway.
But then how did I become convinced?
When I joined Amway, my sponsor didn’t convince me.
Honestly I just wanted to give it a try ok.
The first two months, really I had zero volume.
Just then I already told you that I was very lucky to meet Dr Jerry,
and it was him that influenced me.
Then how was he able to influence me?
Was it because he was an Emerald?
Was it because he was a professional, a medical practitioner?
No.
The most important reason why he was able to convince me is because he himself believed.
You may not know his story. He joined because of his wife.
It was Angela that first joined, because she wanted to buy products.
Dr Jerry was of course very nervous, because he was a professional dental practitioner.
He was the president of the Malaysian Dental Association so he was very cautious.
What if this business wasn’t very good?
It may affect his image and reputation.
So he started to research this business,
he started collecting many articles,
started reading many reports related to Amway.
Are you like Dr Jerry?
I find many of us when we join, we start selling and sponsoring immediately.
This is why you come across obstacles.
Why? because you don’t even know anything about this business.
You might say “yes I believe this business”
but if you ask me, I don’t think you really believe this business yet.
Because if you really believe, you can convince anyone.
So Dr Jerry continuously collected, continuously researched,
He even wrote letters to English publications,
asking about the state of development about the Amway business.
He still wasn’t satisfied, he personally visited the American embassy asking about Amway company.
When he discovered that Amway was debt free,
When he found that Amway was such a successful company, with such a great reputation
He became convinced.
When he was convinced himself,
he became more powerful and could then develop such a huge business
and sponsored so many people.
He could convince so many people because he was convinced himself.
So friends, The first step is that you must convince yourself first.
Once you successfully convince yourself, you can convince anyone.
